COMING UP CLUTCH: Norse Win In Final Minute
The Bay College men’s basketball team scored the game’s final eight points to pull out a 75-70 win over the Silver Lake Lakers Saturday night in Manitowoc Wis.
Kobi Barnes scored on a tip-in to bring the Norse to within one point with 58 seconds left, then after a turnover, Barnes took a pass on the blocks and put it in off the rim to give the Norse the lead.
The Bay College defense forced another turnover, and Alfonzo Fields sank a pair of free throws to make it 73-70. A three-point attempt for the Lakers was long, and then Marcus McKenney was fouled and he made both free throws in the final seconds to make it a 75-70 final.
It was the second time this season that the Norse pulled out a five-point win over the Lakers.
In the first half the Norse got off to a strong start as Christian Alexander had two slam dunks in the first two minutes of the game.
The Norse led, 25-15, before the Lakers went on a 20-6 run, with Byron Dean getting a triple and three two-point baskets during that spurt.
Ryan Armdt buried a three to bring the Norse to within one at the half, and in the second half, a Tyler Willette basket tied the game at 41-41.
But the Lakers made three straight triples, including two by Dean, and Silver Lake had a 50-41 lead four minutes into the second half.
McKenney brought the Norse back with 15 second half points, with a triple and three two-point baskets in a four-minute span. Logan Hardwick came off the bench for two baskets during that run.
McKenney led the Norse with 22 points while Barnes added eleven points.
Alexander also scored eleven points. Barnes and Alexander combined to make nine of the eleven shots they took from the floor. Dean had 21 points for the Lakers (7-16). Thomas Bullock added 17 points and David Hughes scored 14.
