Escanaba Drops Opener At Public School Showcase


Both teams scored three goals in the third period, but the Escanaba Eskymos fall to the Davison Cardinals, 5-4, at the Michigan Public High School Hockey Showcase Thursday in downstate Chelsea.

Christer Carne scored twice, Grant Wickham and Kyle Krutina added goals, and Nick Kolich had a pair of assists for the Eskymos, who fell to 8-10-0 on the season.

 
Wickham's goal, assisted by Joey Jacobson and Kolich, gave the Eskymos a 1-0 lead in the first period, but the Cardinals tied the game late in the period, and then Davison scored the only goal of the second period.

The goals came in bunches from there. Carne tied it, with Kolich assisting, at the 3:25 mark of the third period.

But the Cardinals scored twice in a span of 4:13 to go ahead, 4-2, midway through the period.

Carne brought the Eskymos to within 4-3, which Wickham and Chris Sliva assisting, but less than a minute later, the Cardinals scored again to go back ahead, 5-3.

Kyle Krutina scored late in the game, with Ethan Silverstone assisting, but the Eskymos could not get the equalizer. Eskymos faces Bloomfield Hills Friday at noon.
