SHOOTOUT WINNER: Escanaba Wins In Chelsea
Christer Carne scored the only goal of the shootout as the Escanaba Eskymos beat the Bloomfield Hills Black Hawks, 5-4, Friday, in Chelsea.
The Eskymos tied the game with 1:03 left on a goal by Luke Labre, sending the game into a shootout at the Arctic Coliseum. The shootout is allowed in regular season and in-season tournament games, but is not used in the MHSAA post-season playoffs.
Trevor Denome stopped three shootout attempts to earn the victory in net.
Carne scored the game's first goal, with Grant Wickham and Labre assisting, six minutes into the game.
The Black Hawks scored the next two goals before Nick Kolich tied the game with 2:53 left in the first period, with Spencer Bourdeau drawing the assist.
Each team scored a goal in the second period, with Kyle Krutina getting the Eskymo goal, and Joey Jacobson getting the assist.
But the Black Hawks scored with 13 seconds left in the second period when an Eskymo defenseman accidentally slipped it into his own net.
It stayed 4-3 for Bloomfield Hills until Labre scored, with Carne drawing the assist.
Counting the shootout winner, Carne had two goals and an assist for Escanaba.
Escanaba improved to 9-10-0 on the season. Bloomfield Hills fell to 11-8-0.
The Eskymos take on East Kentwood on Saturday afternoon in Chelsea.
