ROUGH NIGHT: Norse Women Fall At Finlandia U


The Bay College women's basketball team missed all 16 of its three-point attempts, and missed 10 of 23 free throws, and dropped a 57-49 decision to the Finlandia University Lions Monday night in Hancock.

The loss was just the second for the Norse since November, and the team finished the regular season with a 20-7 overall record. The playoffs begin on Feb. 27.

 
Taylor Pertile nailed a couple of triples in the first quarter to help the Lions take a 12-7 lead after the first quarter.

Then Katie Lundeen had a basket and a foul early in the second quarter to make it 18-7, and after Kaitlyn Hardwick scored twice for the Norse, Pertile hit her third triple of the first half to give Finlandia a 21-13 lead. 

The Norse closed to within 24-19 at the half, and managed to tie the game at 30-30 in the third quarter, with Keshia Davis doing much of the work inside the paint.

But Lundeen scored seven points in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter to help the Lions take a 45-37 lead. The Norse closed to within 47-44 before Mariah Austin scored a big basket to make it a five point game.

Davis brought the Norse to within three with twoi minutes left, but Harlee Froberg nailed a jumper as the shot clock wound down.

Davis led the Norse with 18 points. Jordan Kraemer, who crossed the 1,000 point mark for her career in Bay's last game, was held to a career-low five points.

Lundeen led the Lions (7-17) wuth 18 points.

Bay College hosts Gogebic Community College in the NJCAA Region 13 opener on Wednesday, Feb. 27. The game in Escanaba starts at 6:00 ET.
