Northern Michigan Releases 2019-20 Hockey Sked
Northern Michigan University Ice Hockey has released their 2019-20 season schedule which features renewing an old rivalry, four opponents who reached the 2019 NCAA Tournament, 18 games inside the Berry Events Center and a full Western Collegiate Athletic Conference slate.
The season begins with the Wildcats visiting the United States National Team Development Program U18 team on October 5 in an exhibition game.
NMU begins the regular season October 11-12 with former Central Collegiate Hockey Association rival Michigan State University in the Berry Events Center. The series will be the first matchup against the Spartans since 2015 and first in Marquette since 2011. The team then heads to Boston, Massachusetts to take on Boston University for the first two-game series with Boston since 1985.
WCHA play gets started at Ferris State University October 25-26. The team returns to their home ice November 1-2 to host University of Alabama-Huntsville which kicks off a three-weekend home stand. The next weekend, November 8-9, the team hosts St. Cloud State University, the 2019 NCAA Tournament top seed, in the Berry Events Center for the first time since 2011. On November 15-16, NMU returns to WCHA action to host University of Alaska-Fairbanks.
The season's first series with rival Michigan Technological University takes place November 22-23. NMU visits the Huskies Friday night and will host their rivals Saturday night, November 23.
November 29-30 sees the Wildcats head south for another series with Alabama-Huntsville before closing the 2019 calendar year with defending WCHA Champion Minnesota State University-Mankato.
To open 2020, NMU visits Bowling Green State University, coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance, in a rematch of the 2019 WCHA Semifinals on January 3-4. The Berry Events Center sees WCHA action the next weekend, January 10-11, as University of Alaska-Anchorage comes to town.
The Wildcats head to Cornell University, who reached the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals, January 17-18 then visit Alaska-Fairbanks January 24-25. January 31-February 1 will feature NMU returning to Marquette to host Ferris State before the team heads to Minnesota State February 7-8.
The last three weeks feature the Wildcats in the U.P., starting with a series against Bemidji State University in the Berry Events Center February 14-15. The team then visits Lake Superior State University as they look to hold onto the Cappo Cup February 21-22.
The regular season finishes February 28-29 with rival Michigan Tech. The Wildcats will celebrate Senior Night Friday, February 28, with the regular season coming to a close at Tech on Saturday.
All Friday home games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. with Saturday home games scheduled for a 6 p.m. start, except for the home Michigan Tech matchup on November 23 which will begin at 7 p.m. Times for road contests will be provided as they become available.

The Wildcats finished 2018-19 with their second-straight 20-win season, the first time they posted back-to-back 20 win seasons since the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons, and hosted the WCHA Semifinals for the second year in a row. The team returns WCHA Defenseman of the Year and 2019-2020 captain, rising senior Philip Beaulieu (Duluth, MInn.), as well as 13 goal scorers. The full 2019-2020 season schedule can be found HERE.
