RIVALRY SWEEP: Escanaba Rolls Past Gladstone

GLADSTONE---The Escanaba High School volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 win over the Gladstone Braves Tuesday night in Gladstone.

The scores were 25-13, 25-15, and 27-25.

Then the boys from the senior classes took the floor, and Escanaba won that match as well, albeit just for bragging rights, 25-20, and 25-17.

In the girls varsity match, it appeared that Gladstone would force a fourth set when the Braves took a 24-17 lead. But the Eskymos saved seven straight set pounts, and evfentually won the set, 27-25, on a service ace by senior Taylor Ray.

Escanaba Coach Adam Lambert says he fired the girls up, but that's not why the team rallied to end the match in three sets.

"It took the team to do it, not their coach," Lambert said. "It doesn't matter how excited I get, it's about getting themselves excited. And someone on that team decided that it was time to play. I give it to Jalin. Jalin really got fired up. Jalin Olson is one of the best liberos in our region."

Gladstome Coach Bill Lawrence was disappointed with the loss, but encouraged with the team's effort in that third set that almost led to the Braves' first set win against the Eskymos this season.

"We changed our lineup in that third set," Lawrence said. "We took advantage of some of our strengths against some of their strengths. That really made a difference, and the girls just really brought a lot more energy to that set."

Nicole Kamin led Escanaba with 12 kills.
