Northern Michigan Soccer Teams Lose Close Games

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University Men's Soccer hosted Saginaw Valley State University in a matchup of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes but were unable to get the victory as they fell 1-0.
Senior Callum Olpin (Norwich, England) paced the Wildcat offense with four shots. Senior Lewis Murray (Edinburgh, Scotland), sophomore Kaffie Kurz (Paynesville, Liberia) and freshman Ryan Palmbaum (Rocklin, Calif.) each added one shot.
In goal, sophomore Patrick Restum (Okemos, Mich.) tallied four saves.
Alex Gloshen scored the only Saginaw Valley State goal.
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday as they host the University of Wisconsin Parkside for another GLIAC tilt at 1 p.m. on the NMU Soccer Field.
MIDLAND, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University Women's Soccer team outshot Northwood University but were unable to get one into the net as they fell to the Timberwolves 2-0 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.
Sophomore Caroline Halonen (Hartland, Mich.) took five shots to lead the Wildcats. Sophomore Natalie Stampfly (Stevensville, Mich.) added two shots.
Senior Jamie Montgomery (Gaithersburg, Md.), junior Isabela Cardoso (Sao Paulo, Brazil), sophomore Rachael Erste (Rockford, Mich) and freshmen Isabelle Brusilow (Grosse Point, Mich.), Evelyn Flor (Hugo, Minn.), and Gwen Kiilunen (Brighton, Mich.) each chipped in with one shot.
Junior goalkeeper Brianna Frontuto (Luxemburg, Wis.) tallied six saves.
NMU will return to action on Sunday and will host rival Michigan Tech University on the NMU Soccer Field for Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
