Stephenson Eagles Cancel Another Football Game

STEPHENSON---The Stephenson Eagles will not play the Forest Park Trojans in high school football this Thursday night. Stephenson announced on Tuesday that it was forfeiting the game, making the second straight game that has been forfeited by the Eagles.

They also forfeited last Saturday's game against Pickford, but Pickford picked up a game against Gaylord St. Mary.

Thursday's game was going to be Senior Night for the Eagles.

The statement from the Stephenson Schools:

Stephenson High School has made the decision to withdraw the football team from competitive play for the contest against Crystal Falls - Forest Park High School, scheduled for Thursday, October 17th, 2019 to protect the health and safety of our student-athletes.

The current state of the football team precludes the program from providing a safe environment for the participants involved.

Team members have received numerous injuries this season, with a substantial portion of our roster not medically cleared to participate or has injuries limiting their participation.

The athletic department is not willing to compromise the health and safety of our student-athletes, and participating in a contest this week could prove to be detrimental to the Varsity football program.

The team is still committed to the program and is hoping to complete the season, but this is a decision that we will revisit early next week based on the health of our student-athletes.

The safety of our student-athletes is our utmost concern, and we will make every decision with their best interest in mind.
