MAHA Hockey State Finals Cancelled In Marquette

The Michigan Amateur Hockey Association announced tonight it has cancelled all its remaining State Championships, including high school, youth, and adult that were set to begin or already in process in various locations across the state of Michigan.

This includes the Under-18 Double-A, 16-A, and 18-Double-A state tournaments scheduled to be run at Marquette’s Lakeview Arena.

In addition, MAHA also announced it has postponed the youth player development tryouts that were scheduled to take place over the next several weeks. The girls' tryout, scheduled for mid-April, will remain as scheduled for the time being and will be subject to change as the situation progresses.

“Safety of our participants has always been our top priority and with the current coronavirus situation, our executive committee unanimously decided to cancel our remaining events,” said George Atkinson, president of MAHA. “We’re sure there will be many questions and we appreciate everyone’s patience as we together work through this unprecedented situation.

“While we're disappointed that we had to make this decision, we want to congratulate the teams that qualified for these events for making it this far in their season."

"I really hoped we would make it through the next few weeks and complete our championships, but given today’s developments that is now not possible. We also want to thanks the many people that invested time and effort into the planning and organization of these championship events. "
