Detroit News Recognizes U.P. Players As All-Staters


The Detroit News is out with its high school girls basketball All-State Teams.

In Division Two, Menominee’s Emma Anderson made the “third team”, while Escanaba’s Nicole Kamin and Sault Ste. Marie’s Julia Beaumont made the “fourth team”.

In Division Three, Westwood’s Tessa Leece and West Iron County’s Emily Nelson made the “fourth team”. Westwood's Madelyn Koski was honorable mention.

In Division Four, Saint Ignace’s Hallie Marshall made the first team, while Elise Bessonen of Ewen-Trout Creek and Merecdes Simmons of West Iron County made the third team.

Four Yoopers were on the five-member “fourth team”: Megan Matson of Munising, Sophie Vaughan of Engadine, and St. Ignace’s Emmalee Hart and Ally Schultz.

Kennedy Englund of Mid Peninsula, Briana Smith of North Dickinson, and Sanda Boulton of Carney-Nadeau wete honorable mention.
