Broncos Make History Despite Loss In Quarterifnal
KALAMAZOO---The Bark River-Harris High School wrestling team lost to state power New Lothrop on Tuesday in the MHSAA Division Four state quarterfinals, 54-20 in Kalamazoo.
The combined Bark River-Harris/North Central High School team made history, however, by competing on the statewide stage for the first time, after winning district and regional titles.
The first match of the day saw BRH/NCA 130-pounder Daniel Dani battle hard, and hold a late lead, before losing in the final seconds in a 9-8 decision. Later, the Broncos got their first win as senior Tyler Racicot pulled out a 4-2 overtime win over Bryce Cheney.
In the next match, NCA's Drew Allgeyer rolled to a tech foul win over Noah Ruddy, 18-1.
It looked like the Broncos would win a third straight match when NCA's Wyatt Raab took a 10-3 lead in his 189-pound match with Kody Krupp. Raab was wrestling "up" in a higher weight class, and eventually was pinned by Ktupp.
Earlier, Raab's little brother, Dillon, lost to Krupp's brother Andrew, on a close 5-4 decision at 140 pounds.
The only pin of the dual match for BR-H came at 103 pounds as Brenden Siedlecki went deep into his match before pinning Leo Bauman at the 4:58 mark.
The other BR-H win came at 119 pounds as Katie Viau got a forfeit victory.
The season isn't over for BR-H/NCA wrestlers, as seven of them will compete in the individual state finals this Saturday. There will be a total of 31 U.P. wrestlers competing in all divisions.
New Lothrop, by the way, lost in the semifinals to Clinton High School, 54-9.
