GLADSTONE---The Iron Mountain Mountaineers cruised to an easy win over the Gladstone Braves Thursday in Gladstone's Volley For a Cure "pink" volleyball match. The scores were 25-12, 25-10, 25-13, keeping the Braves winless on the season.

It was an emotional night for all involved, as both teams wore pink to honor those who are battling breast cancer. Many people in the building have lost someone to the disease.

There was a presentation between the second and third games, where checks were given to two local women dealing with breast cancer. Pam Sarasin and Sara Belanger both received $1,810.

There were bucket raffles, a 50/50 to help the cancer alliance, and plenty of pink decorations.

As for the match itself, Iron Mountain Coach Emma Thomann was pleased.

"Serving is huge for us," Thomann said. "We work on it every day in practice. We're serving zones, making sure the girls have the right form. I think in the beginning of the season, we hit a little bit of a slump in one of our tournaments, and in a few of our games. But I feel like we are hitting our peak at the right time."
