Halasz Shutout Leads Northern Past Bowling Green

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University Wildcats closed out senior weekend with a win on Saturday night, beating the Falcons 1-0 to earn the weekend sweep.
A tight checking game through and through, the 'Cats broke through late in the second period, as Connor Eddy recieved a pass from Andre Ghantous and burst down the slot, beating Christian Stoever by the stick side, and giving the 'Cats a lead in the dying minutes of the second period.
The 'Cats shut it down in the final frame as Beni Halasz made 11 saves, the Wildcat defense posted seven blocks, and the 'Cats killed both penalties en route to the 1-0 win.
The Wildcats now improve to 12-14-6 overall and 10-10-4 in CCHA play with 36 points. The Falcons fall to 13-20-1 overall and 11-12-1 in CCHA play with 35 points.
The Wildcats finish the regular season in fifth, and will travel to the fourth-place Minnesota State Mavericks next weekend for the opening round of the playoffs.
- Beni Halasz pitched a shutout, his fifth of his career, as he stopped all 20 shots faced and helped the 'Cats successfully kill both penalties. This was Halasz' second shutout of the season, his first coming in a 2-0 win in Bowling Green
- Connor Eddy opened the bank on the evening, scoring his seventh goal of the season and second goal of the weekend
- Andre Ghantous picked up his third point of of the weekend, giving him eight points in his last seven games and 23 assists on the year
- Kristof Papp picked up his second point on the weekend, giving him three points in his last three games
- The Wildcats are now 26-16-3 on senior nights since 1979-80, 2-1 against Bowling Green in such games
- The Wildcats now improve to 4-2 in one-goal games, 10-4-2 at home, and 11-1-1 when leading after two periods.
